About the Work:
This sculpture explores the use of animal hide within a contemporary sculptural context. The cowhide at its centre recalls early image-making, when skins and cave walls were used for ritual, survival, and expression. It is surrounded by materials gathered from the streets of Bangkok, creating a contrast between sacred substance and industrial remains. The hide is not only a surface but also a memory. Once part of a living body, it now holds new meaning through its placement. The work reflects on transformation, memory, and the layered connections between people, animals, and the materials we carry forward.

Artist’s Note:
This piece is part of an ongoing series exploring the use of animal hides in sculpture. The cowhide recalls early image-making, when people painted on skins and cave walls as part of ritual and survival. Here, the hide is surrounded by everyday materials collected from the streets of Bangkok. The contrast between the natural and the industrial speaks to transformation, memory, and the relationship between humans, animals, and the objects we leave behind. The hide is not just a surface. It is a memory, reassembled to carry new meaning.
