Songkran: A Time of Water and Return

Across Thailand, from 13 to 15 April each year, Songkran, also known as the Thai New Year, unfolds as both celebration and quiet reflection. Water fills the streets, bringing joy, laughter, and a sense of release.

Beyond the celebration, smaller moments emerge, the gentle pouring of water, the act of returning home, and the offering of phuang malai, small floral garlands that carry respect, memory, and presence. For a wider look, you can read more about Songkran.

At The Charoen AArt, FAMILY looks at Songkran from a closer distance. Created by Illya Skubak as part of the STRATUM series, the work traces memory through material and time. A simple engraving of a house and figures sits on stone, while water moves gently across it, softening the image and blurring the line between what we hold and what begins to fade.

As the festival unfolds, FAMILY offers a brief pause, a moment to consider what family means, not only as people gathered in one place, but as something carried within us over time.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
