Halo

A halo appeared in the sky as an omen. I’ve seen it twice in my life, both times recently, high in the Himalayas. My once unwavering belief in my near stone-like integrity was completely shattered upon encountering this circle of light. I met weakness, discovered fear. I did not dare look; the protective wall was raised once again. Enormous power—man is so helpless in the face of his own nature. Enormous refraction of light, a wild optical phenomenon in thin air. Enormous refraction within myself, I ran down the mountain as fast as I could.
