Artist's Note:

Extreme 1 and Extreme 2 are a pair that explore intense childhood moments. Each has its own story, but both are linked by the key experiences that shape our early understanding of life.

Extreme 1
Birthday. Mum is busy, guests are gathered, lights go out. Under the familiar music, they bring out the cake, a mix of cream and musk, with bright cherries, edible flowers, and a hard plastic figure placed neatly in the centre of the festive display. Eyes like gems, stiff hair tied with ribbons. We look into each other's eyes; lights flicker on our faces. Inhale, pause, exhale quickly, dark. Screams, blessings, the beginning.

Extreme 2
I was 5 years old, waiting in front of the house. There was a small creature, one with a name that was still long, but warm. The control system knew it needed help, yet it was too small in a big place. Most decisions were left to the adults, to hurry up and let it go. Mostly to help the bird, to turn back for several hours. It would take a bit of tea, and with help, rub its eyes, trying not to be little. The timeline whispers, 'go faster, don’t look, no need to look.' End.
